Tables Gone Wild
December 19th, 2003
That title reminds me of those sleasy videos you see advertised on TV all the time about girls who recklessly exploit themselves before an amateur videographer.
Well this post is also about reckless exploitation and amateurs. But I am talking about the reckless use of tables I found in a client’s website, created by an amateur web designer.
The client did not want a redesign at this point, but I decided since the site was fairly small, that I would at least clean up the layout a bit. Take a look at one of the pages. There are way too many unnecessary table, tr, and td tags. The person responsible for this got way too carried away with an image slicing tool like Fireworks or ImageReady.
Now I can’t say that my clean up of this page is perfect. The client just wanted some content updates and didn’t want a redesign. And I used some tables because the client wasn’t ready to go with a CSS layout, but it is definetely cleaner than the old version.

That is horrible. I agree, I does seem that this guy has used some type of html generator from an fireworks or photoshop image. Usually fireworks will make one big table, with many tr and td tags with column and row spanning everywhere. I can’t tell if this page is one or many tables, but its not professional. By the way, how big was the actual html file, just curious.
My website needs revamping. Just in case you decide to visit and see the mess.
