Gates on Spam
June 25th, 2003
“Unsolicited commercial email is a spreading plague that feeds off the unique power of the Internet to connect hundreds of millions of computer users around the world, at virtually no cost. Generally unwanted–and often pornographic or with fraudulent intent–spam is a nuisance and a distraction,” Gates writes. “Like almost everyone, I receive a lot of spam every day, much of it offering to help me get out of debt or get rich quick. It’s ridiculous.” – Bill Gates

I agree that there are time when spam is in my hotmail inbox, but I’ve been pleased at the efforts that have been made lately regarding Yahoo! and Hotmails service. I think it has definitely improved with the filters they have in place now. It seems that the amount of spam I recieve in Hotmail is lower than that of Yahoo!’s but varies depending on the new advances and technology that spammers use. Considering the amount of users and availability of their free service, I’m quite impressed.
